  1. Q. How far is it to Perth from the Village?
    A.  As the crow flies – 12 km

  2. Q. How close is public transport?
    A. The Village is located on major bus routes to Perth, Midland and Carousel Shopping Centre.

  3. Q. How many units are in the Village?
    A. 121 units, with further development planned. However we will never compromise the open spaces and country lifestyle.

  4. Q. Do we have to participate in all the social activities?
    A. No. It’s your choice how active you become in Village life.

  5. Q. I’m not a churchgoer.  Is that a problem?
    A. Not at all.  We totally respect the privacy and rights of residents.

  6. Q. I have a dog.  Can I still keep him if I move into a unit at Walridge?
    A. At Walridge we understand the importance of pets.  Residents are normally permitted to bring a small dog or indoor cat to share their home at Walridge.

  7. Q. How much is the fortnightly maintenance fee?
    A. Please contact us for current rates.

  8. Q. We are self-funded retirees.  Does that affect the amount of money that we pay?
    A. No.  Everyone pays the same amount per unit style.

  9. Q. With the emergency alarm, can I have one of those that you wear around your neck?
    A. Yes, that’s the style of alarm we use.  It can be either worn as a pendant or a bracelet.

  10. Q. If we lease one of the new units before construction commences, to what extent can we influence the design?
    A. The structure and design of the units are fixed, however, you would be offered a choice of tiles, floor coverings and window treatments.

  11. Q. What is the current market value of Walridge units?
    A. Please contact our office and request a copy of the latest Financial Data Sheet.

  12. Q. Are you happy for our solicitor or accountant to read over the documentation and to represent our interests?
    A. Naturally.  We encourage you to seek expert advice.

  13. Q. Does the “lease for life” give me legal rights?
    A. Yes.  These are fully explained in the contract.  We will provide you with a copy for your accountant or solicitor to peruse at the time of signing an Agreement to Lease.

  14. Q.  When I leave the Village, how much do you deduct from the re-lease price of my unit as a contribution to further development of Walridge?
    A.  The deduction is based on a percentage per year of residency, calculated on a daily basis. This is called the Deferred Management Fee and Reserve Fund and is fully explained at the initial interview.

  15. Q.  Would you mind listing the sorts of facilities that are available locally?
    A.  Medical practices, podiatry, pathology services, pharmacies, dental,  post office, newsagents, bank branches, hair salons, major and smaller shopping centres, full supermarket facilities, butchers, greengrocers, churches and public transport.

  16. Q.  How much extra does it cost to access the FOXTEL channels and others that you refer to in the brochure?
    A.  Nothing extra.  It’s all part of the facilities on offer.

  17. Q.  Can we save money from the fortnightly fee by choosing not to have some of these facilities?
    A.  No.  We are a not-for-profit organization and have a standard package of facilities and services for all units. By offering these to everyone we are able to keep the fortnightly fee to a minimum.

  18. Q.  As a resident, if I have a complaint, what are my rights?
    A.  We encourage residents to speak up.  Every resident belongs to the Walridge Village Residents Association which meets monthly.  The Village Manager attends all meetings, or you can speak to the Village Manager at any time, or write to the board of management.  If you feel that your complaint has not been addressed to your satisfaction you can contact the Department of Fair Trading which administers the Code of Conduct for the Retirement Village Act 1992.
